Hygge is hard to define but is essentially a word about enjoying life in comfortable and familiar surroundings with good company and usually accompanied by good food and drink.
Politically, the country is a constitutional democracy with coalition governments acting according to parliament’s wishes – with the monarchy acting solely as a figurehead. Denmark is a member of the European Union, United Nations and NATO.
The official religion in Denmark is Lutheran evangelical but religious freedom is a mainstay in Danish society and most of the world’s religions are represented.
