The water in Copenhagen
The water in Copenhagen contains quite a lot of calcium. As such, faucets and showheads will build up calcium deposits that can hinder the flow of water through them. It is not only the water flow that will get hindered. The calcium will also set on the bathroom tiles and the sink, which gives a dull and grey look.
At City Apartment we do everything in our power to make your rental apartment a nice, well maintained place to call home – but, unfortunately, we are not magicians. The calcium in the Copenhagen water is unavoidable. It takes a bit of work one in a while to maintain a fresh and calcium-free showerhead and faucet, and it has to be done. Feeling up to the task? It is easy to maintain both showerhead and faucet however – all you need is some white vinegar and a bit of time. Read more below.
How to clean and descale a shower head and faucet
Even though the calcium can be a bit of a pain and the descaling can seem like a huge project, it is actually not the case. Luckily, it is easy to maintain both showerhead and faucet. Everything you need is some white vinegar and a bit of time (you can even do it overnight, while you sleep).
How to descale a showerhead
Clean the showerhead and remove all calcium, by following these steps:
- Unscrew the showerhead
- Take a bowl and mix 50% white vinegar and 50% water
- Put the showerhead in the bowl with the mixture
- Let it be for 12-24 hours – you can do it overnight, so it is nice and clean for your morning shower
- Screw the showerhead back on
- Turn on the water and rinse the showerhead quickly
How to descale a faucet
Just like the descaling of the showerhead, it is just as easy to descale a faucet by following these steps:
- Unscrew the head of the faucet
- If it is very stuck, you can use a wrench to loosen it. Use a cloth between the head and the wrench, to avoid scratches!
- Take a bowl and mix 50% white vinegar and 50% water
- Put the head of the faucet in the bowl with the mixture
- Let it be for 12-24 hours – you can do it overnight
- Screw the head back on
- Turn on the water and rinse quickly
